Task 2 1. Which story in the business +press has interested you most recently and why? (243 words) A story in the business press that has interested me recently is the proposed effects of the 2015 election on Human Rights Law. The structure of UK Human Rights protections is one of the most useful and operative instruments for grasping an individual’s rights. It was founded in 1951 and improved by the passing of the Human Rights Act in 1998. One example of its importance, the Staffordshire Hospital litigation acquired both compensation and a full public inquiry for defenceless adults betrayed by catastrophic health care failings. Describe a rewarding team project that you have been involved in and why do you consider it rewarding? (247 words) This year I was involved in the Leeds Beckett Inter-house Mooting competition. Mooting is the oral demonstration of a legal issue or problem against an opposing counsel and before a judge. It may be the nearest experience a student can have whilst at university to acting in court. A moot normally consists of four speakers, split into two teams, each containing of a leading and junior counsel. One side represents the appellants, the other the respondents. Myself and a fellow student decided to join the competition as a team. I took the position of lead council and she took position as junior. We received the case two weeks before the Moot took place and spent many hours in the library working together to construct an argument for the respondent. After constructing the argument we practiced performing the moot whilst trying to use the script as little as possible. During the Moot we displayed all the skills we had practiced and successfully won against the opposing student team. As a result of our strong teamwork we managed progress onto the next stage of the competition.
